Now that this article is a kind of long I'll have to start to do so unceremoniously let's go.

The "dns-server" (IPv6) is a command IOS "Cisco DHCP for IPv6 pool configuration" mode command, the network will also indicate that the Domain Name System (DNS) server IPv6 (s) available.

Below is the correct syntax and example of "DNS-server" (IPv6) command:

Syntax: Router (config-dhcp) # dns-serverIPv6 Address
Example: router (config-dhcp), # dns-server 2001:0 DC8: 3000:3000:: 42

Note that the router will ask "DHCP for IPv6 pool configuration" mode and the argument is the IPv6 address IPv6 address of DNS servers available.

Now, in case you were wondering, you can use (configure) the "dns-server" (IPv6), the command multiple times on a router, a network, if you have multiple DNS servers on your computer. And the new IPv6 addressesdoes not delete (overwrite) the current (previous) IPv6 addresses.

And if you need to remove a specific DNS server to list all DNS have to do what is the word "no" before the command as you can see below:

Syntax: Router (config-DHCP) # no DNS server IPv6 address
Example: Router (config-dhcp) # no dns-server 2001:0 DC8: 3000:3000:: 42

Ok, that pretty much sums up the "DNS-server" (IPv6) Command, so we go to "domain – the name" (IPv6) command.

The "domain – the name" (IPv6) command is also an IOS "Cisco DHCP for IPv6 pool configuration" mode command, but is used or you configure a domain name for a DHCP client to request IPv6 router also known as RR.

Below is the correct syntax and example for the "domain – the name" (IPv6) command:

Syntax: Router (config-dhcp) #> Domain – Domain Name
Example: Router (config-DHCP) Domain # – ittechtips.com name

Note that the router prompt is once again in "IPv6 DHCP pool configuration" mode and the subject domain is an indication of the domain name to be used by the client. So in the example above, the router (client) is ittechtips.com use of the domain name.

And just like the "DNS-server" (IPv6) command, "Domain – The name" (IPv6) command can be used (configured) multiple times on a router. The name of the new domain will not delete (overwrite) the existing domain name.

Finally, if you must) remove the domain name to a DHCPv6 client (RR, you need domain, type the word "no" before "- name" (IPv6) command as shown below:

Syntax: Router (config-dhcp) # no domainname> Domain
Example: Router (config-DHCP) # no domain – ittechtips.com Name

I hope this article was very informative and helped me to understand quickly, use the "DNS server and domainName" (IPv6) command. If you learn more, I suggest you visit my site where you can find the latest information on Cisco IPv6 Design and Implementation Techniques.

To your success,
